The Stadtmenschen work voluntarily and offer support to all people in Vienna to help them find their way around the city's wide range of services. Mobile city dwellers support people in Vienna who are unable to make independent use of the wide range of support services provided by the Vienna Social Fund (FSW). In close cooperation with the city people in the consultation hours, they offer people seeking help who are not yet FSW customers an uncomplicated way to approach the responsible offices with their concerns already pre-informed.
Jointly with Wiener Pflege- und Betreuungsdienste GmbH (WPB) of the Vienna Social Fund (FSW), individual support services are implemented for clients by volunteer "Stadtmenschen Buddys". The task of the so-called "buddies" is to support people who are discharged from professional support by FSW-WPB social work, on their way to independence in everyday life. The buddy activity is a personal 1:1 support relationship: In other words, depending on the needs and exact goals agreed, a support worker (buddy) is directly assigned to one person. Buddies support their clients low-threshold and at eye level in strengthening their recovered independence and maintaining it in the long term.
If the FSW notices that a client cannot cope on their own but does not (currently) need professional help, they are referred to the Stadtmenschen consultation hours or to mobile Stadtmenschen. The volunteer Stadtmenschen support the clients by working together preparing appointments or accompanying them to appointments and, if necessary, discuss them together and point out the next steps.
